The Organism in the Organization.

Gender Dynamics is not the same as Gender Equality … there is a little bit of the feminine in every man and a little bit of masculine in every woman … the biological gender is only physical …. We also have the mental, emotional and the spiritual to deal with. When an organization finds its organism … it will find its unaddressed complexity … it will find its complete self … in which there is a yin and a yang… a masculine and a feminine … interacting with each other and becoming one … not 2 but 1.

Please don’t make the above thought simplistic by assuming it’s about gender equality … it has nothing to do with that. This is not new for the east … the yin of creation (Brahma) has yang of knowledge (Saraswati), the yin of preservation (Vishnu) has the yang of Wealth (Lakshmi) and the yin of transformation (Shiva) has the yang of energy (Shakti).

Methods of problem solving could be destination (goal) oriented or journey (process) oriented … neither is complete without an interaction with the other. Dr. Pat Heim’s insight is that men are destination focused whereas women are journey focused.

Instead of swinging the pendulum from one method to the other … I believe we must find the best interaction between the two methods. The future of problem solving as interactions will be one that is journey based in the beginning and become more goal based as it approaches the destination. (See image)

Mu Sigma is designed as networks … but its own people struggle with it because most people find that new … they hate hierarchies but find more comfort in it. Why … because everybody else is doing it.

We have three networks in Mu Seeking Sigma.
1.) Decision Scientists (E)
2.) Apprentice Leaders (C)
3.) Leadership (m)

E = m (C^2)

A good design will allow for a small amount of mass to create a large amount of energy. The quality of the design will show in the income statement, balance sheet and the cap table.

You might ask … If we don’t have hierarchies how do we resolve conflicts?

Thru dialog ( not discussion and not debate) … the better idea always wins … the leader is an emergent phenomenon … the person with the maximum belief and clarity will convince his team mates fully or in most cases partially … SHE will change HIMSELF (intentional mis-categorization of genders) while convincing others … that’s the nature of dialog.
(Will separatly post later on dialog vs discussion vs debate)

Today, I described my intuition to a dear 82 year old friend of mine. He has led the computer science department in a top US university for 50 years. I learnt the following from him. Every organism has three kinds of neurons:
A.) Motor neurons ( get shit done, masculine)
B.) Sensor neurons ( develop empathy, feminine)
C.) Inter Neurons ( connect the masculine and the feminine thru dialog)

Our society and the organizations of our time are desperately crying out for dialog using inter neurons. Can we hear the cry?
